2026 Tour de Suisse Stage 4 Results & Recap
Stage 4 of the 2026 Tour de Suisse is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
Tadej Pogačar (UEX) took the narrowest of victories in the stage 4 time trial, crossing the line in Aarburg 31/100ths of a second quicker than long-time leader Mathieu van der Poel (APT). Tobias Foss (NCI) was 7 seconds back on Pogačar in third place.
The world road champion's second victory in this race boosted his overall lead out to more than 4 minutes on Richard Carapaz (EFE), who now sits 4'22' back ahead of the final big day in the mountains. Mathias Vacek (LTK) moved up to third place, another 5 seconds behind the Ecuadorean.
After Tudor riders Marco Brenner and then Arthur Kluckers set the early best marks at the finish, the time trial favorites soon improved on their times. Nils Politt (UEX) was the first to shine, crossing the line in 27'21", 20 seconds faster than Kluckers.
A few minutes later, Politt's teammate Tim Wellens (UEX) knocked a huge 31 seconds off the German's time. By that point, Van der Poel was already catching riders who started ahead of him. He set a new best mark at the intermediate check point, then roared in 12 seconds quicker than Wellens.
Van der Poel's time remained out of reach until the final few riders started their time trial. Vacek was the first to threaten it. Quickest by 4 seconds at the intermediate checkpoint, he faded on the second half of the course, coming in 10 seconds down on the Dutchman.
Last man off Pogačar was almost a second faster than Vacek at the checkpoint and caught his minute-man Carapaz soon after. Smooth through corners where others had struggled to maintain the pace, he swept through the final few corners and crossed the line three-tenths of a second faster than the visibly frustrated Van der Poel.
